Dr. Ross Albert Receives Outstanding Palliative Care Award

Receives 2016 Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Physician Awards
Dr. Ross AlbertA Hartford Hospital physician has been nationally recognized for his leadership in providing outstanding care near the end of life. Ross Albert, MD, PhD, is chief of palliative medicine, Hartford Hospital, and medical director, Hartford HealthCare at Home hospice and HOPE palliative care teams, Hartford, CT.
Dr. Albert has been commended for skillfully navigating complex family dynamics. He understands the importance of compassion and empathy in care at the end of life and is skilled at serving a diverse patient population. Colleagues describe him as a physician who “cares for the whole family while treating the one patient who is in crisis,” and as a leader and an advocate “spreading the philosophy of palliative care both within and without the hospital.”
The Award is limited to five physicians across the United States and is given by The Cunniff-Dixon Foundation, whose mission it is to enrich the doctor-patient relationship near the end of life, and The Hastings Center, the founding bioethics research institute that has done groundbreaking work on end-of-life decision-making. The selection process is overseen by Duke University Divinity School’s Program in Medicine, Theology, and Culture.
