Honoring World Suicide Prevention Day 2016

Flags Suicide Lowering 2016

Each year, over 42,000 people commit suicide in the United States, making suicide the tenth leading cause of death in the nation.

In honor of
World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10th, Hartford Hospital's Institute of Living held its annual flag lowering ceremony outside of Hartford Hospital. This ceremony raises awareness about the need for continued work on suicide prevention, and honors those who have died by their own hand.

Suicide is preventable, according to psychiatrist Dr. Linda Durst, Medical Director of the Hartford Hospital Institute of Living.

Dr. Durst speaks with WTIC's Ray Dunaway about suicide prevention in this Connect to Healthier: Short podcast.
