Paul ThompsonPaul D. Thompson, MD
Dr. Thompson is Director of Preventive Cardiology, The Athletes Heart Program and Cardiovascular Research at Hartford Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut.

He previously was Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh from 1992 to 1997 and on the faculty of Brown University from 1978 to 1992. He has authored over 160 scientific articles on topics which include: the effects of exercise training on preventing and treating heart disease; the risk of sudden death during exercise; the effects of statins on muscle function, and genetic factors affecting the exercise response. These research efforts have been supported by grants from foundations, the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health. He is also an Associate Editor of the Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Editor of the book, Exercise and Sports Cardiology. He is a Past President of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Thompson’s research and clinical interests in exercise originate from his personal interest in distance running. He qualified for the 1972 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Eugene, Oregon and finished 16th in the Boston Marathon in 1976.

Lane DuvalLane Duvall, MD
Dr. Duvall is the Director of Nuclear Cardiology at Hartford Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut.

Received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine.  His Internal Medicine training was done at Duke University Medical Center and cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. Active clinically in Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography, Structural Heart team, Cardiac CTA.


Non-Invasive/Preventive Cardiology Fellowship Associate Director

Antonio FernandezAntonio Fernandez, MD
Dr. Fernandez is the Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Hartford Hospital.

Obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela School of Medicine in Caracas Venezuela.  He completed a rotating internship in Venezuela before performing clinical clerkship in Internal Medicine at Lariboisiere Hospital, Paris, France.  He did his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut.  After his residency at UCONN he was in non-invasive cardiology at Yale.  He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Brown University. Active clinically in Preventive Cardiology, Athletes Heart Program, CICU, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology.


Waseem ChaudhryWaseem Chaudhry, MD
Dr. Chaudhry is the Associate Director of Preventive Cardiology and Director of Men’s Cardiovascular Health at Hartford Hospital.

Received his undergraduate degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook and medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. His internal medicine training was done at New York Methodist Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He completed Preventive and Non-Invasive Cardiology fellowship at Hartford Hospital and Cardiovascular Diseases fellowship training at Maine Medical Center. Active clinically in Preventive Cardiology, Athletes Heart Program, Men’s Health Program, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology.


Sean McMahonSean McMahon, MD
Dr. McMahon is the Associate Director of Echocardiography and Director of Quality for Cardiology at Hartford Hospital.

Received his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University and medical degree from SUNY Upstate School of Medicine. His Internal Medicine training and Cardiology Fellowship were done at The University of Vermont. Active clinically in Echocardiography, Structural Heart team, Nuclear Cardiology.
