Bone & Joint Institute | Rheumatology

When you have a chronic illness like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis or gout, you need the expertise of an experienced rheumatologist.

The board-certified rheumatologists at the Bone & Joint Institute offer state-of-the-art therapeutic regimens for arthritis and other rheumatoid conditions.

A Leader in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for Rheumatologic Diagnosis

Our rheumatology service is one of the few in Connecticut certified in musculoskeletal ultrasound as a diagnostic tool. Our physicians have extensive training and experience in ultrasound-guided injections of steroid medications as well as hyaluronic acid, both of which have been shown to provide great pain relief for patients with arthritic joints.

Managing Treatment with Biologics

At the Bone & Joint Institute, we provide innovative therapies with new biologic response modifiers (“biologics”) that help you manage symptoms and prevent joint deterioration. If you are considering starting, or already using, rheumatoid arthritis biologics like Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, Kineret, Cimzia, or Simponi or non-TNF biologics like Rituxan, Orencia or Actemra, you need to be followed closely. The disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDS) used to treat RA are powerful agents that should be closely monitored by a board-certified rheumatologist who can help you achieve maximum efficacy in your treatment.

New medications are constantly being tested and brought to market for rheumatoid illnesses. We are dedicated to helping patients access leading-edge treatments, including clinical trials of new medications like these JAK inhibitors (janus kinase inhibitors, or jakinibs).

Joint Replacement for Arthritis in the Knee or Hip

Sometimes, despite the most advanced medical treatments, rheumatic illnesses still progress and pain and disability gets worse. In those cases, surgery may be an option to improve your quality of life. Total joint replacement of the hip and knee are the most successful, and the Bone & Joint Institute is a leader in these advanced surgical techniques.
