Dr. de Marcaida is the Medical Director of the Movement Disorders Center at Hartford Hospital and treats patients with Parkinson’s disease, Turret’s syndrome, chorea, dystonia, ataxia, and other hypokinetic and hyperkinetic movement disorders. She coordinates care through a multidisciplinary approach and utilizes therapies such as botulin toxin (Botox) injections, oral medications, deep brain stimulation to stimulate specific parts of the brain (acting much like a pacemaker) and an intra-intestinal pump designed to administer medications. Dr. de Marcaida also participates in clinical trials, where physicians and other scientists are attempting to find a cure or, at the very least, find a way of slowing down the progression of neurodegenerative disorders which destroy brain cells that manifest different diseases and conditions associated with movement disorders.
