Diagnosis & Screening

Turn to experienced doctors at the Digestive Health Center at Hartford Hospital for preventive screenings and advanced diagnostic tests and procedures. When you work with us, you’ll get an accurate diagnosis so you can get the right treatment for your condition.

Diagnosis

Look to your GI specialist to find the cause of your digestive health concerns. At your first appointment, your doctor will review your medical history and perform a physical exam. Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may recommend an endoscopic procedure, imaging, or lab tests to diagnose your symptoms. These tests look for disease, inflammation, or abnormal areas in your upper or lower digestive tract. Diagnostic tests can help your doctor determine the cause and severity of your gastrointestinal condition.

Digestive Health Tests & Procedures

You’ll find a broad range of digestive health diagnostic tests and procedures at Hartford Hospital, including:

  • Colonoscopy Examines the lining of your large intestine.
  • Endoscopy Captures images of your digestive tract.
    • Capsule endoscopy – Takes images through a pill you swallow, which passes naturally through your system
    • Upper endoscopy – Focuses on taking images and biopsies of the esophagus, stomach, and the upper portion of your small intestines.
    • Spiral enteroscopy – Uses a thin, flexible scope to take images of your small intestines and sometimes treats conditions during diagnosis.
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) Examines your gallbladder, liver pancreas and bile ducts.
  • Endoscopic ultrasound Uses sound waves to take images of your digestive tracts.
  • Esophageal Manometry
