Brownstone Building at Hartford Hospital

About the Brownstone Ambulatory Care Services

At Hartford Hospital, our involvement in the community is woven into our identity. Contributing to the health and well-being of our neighbors isn’t just something we do; it is who we are.

Central to the community benefits the hospital provides is our Brownstone Ambulatory Care Services. The clinic welcomes all in need, seeing over 40,000 visitors annually for adult primary and specialty care, and 17,000 for dental care, many involving complex medical conditions that require a specialist. Additionally, the clinic is home to the largest HIV facility in the state, caring for up to 800 patients.

Many of the clinic’s patients are homeless and unemployed, struggling with psychiatric disorders, cultural barriers, and a lack of healthcare literacy. Without the clinic, many patients might wait months for an appointment with a specialist or forgo much-needed treatment altogether. Unlike community clinics with staff dedicated solely to their facility, the Brownstone is unique in that Hartford Hospital physicians and specialists from all medical fields donate their time to the clinic so our community patients are seen by the very best physicians.

With all that it does, the busy Brownstone Ambulatory Care Services has outgrown its current location on Retreat Avenue in Hartford. A new clinic building at 132-138 Jefferson Street will open in Summer 2019. So many donations have helped to support Hartford Hospital’s commitment to serving the most vulnerable in our community.
