Adult Volunteer Program

18 years of age or older
& out of high school

Completing an online application is the first step to becoming a volunteer. Applications are reviewed weekly by Volunteer Services and potential candidates are contacted for an interview.

During the interview process, applicants can share more detail about their interest in volunteering, obtain answers to questions they may have and learn about the Department of Volunteer Services, our requirements for volunteering and more details about current volunteer openings.

Applicants who are offered a volunteer role will be required to:

  • Complete Hospital Orientation
  • Complete HIPAA Training
  • Provide proof of childhood immunizations
  • Provide documentation of a current (within 12 months) PPD test
  • Provide documentation of Flu vaccine (during flu season only)
  • Complete an authorization for Criminal Background Check

College Students

Volunteer placement is based on skills, interests, and availability. College applicants are required to meet the 6 month (or two semester) minimum commitment.

If you will receive academic credit for volunteering you must be processed through the department of Medical Education. Please call 860.972.4187 for more information.

Summer VolunTEEN Program

14-18 years of age

Students 14-18 years of age who are still in high school or are new graduates may apply for our Summer VolunTEEN program. (Individuals 18 and older not currently attending high school or not newly graduated may apply with the Adult Volunteer application).

The 2018 VolunTeen program has been filled.  Please begin checking our website in January of 2019 for information about next year's summer program.

Hartford Hospital Volunteers:

  • Must be available to volunteer at least 6 weeks of the 8 week program (Jun. 25 through Aug. 17).
  • Must volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per week (two 4-hour shifts or one 8-hour shift) for at least 48 hours total.
  • Must show documentation of a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply.

Volunteer Opportunities
There are over 200 positions available to volunteers throughout the hospital. The majority of these positions have their hours restricted to weekdays, 8am to 5pm, although some evening and weekend positions are available.
