The Department of Ophthalmology is comprised of thirty-eight ophthalmologists, all of whom maintain private practice offices and offer a full range of ophthalmology services.
Surgery is performed at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Hartford Hospital which has the latest state-of-the-art ophthalmology surgical equipment for all types of general and sub-specialty surgery. The department consists of the following sections: General Ophthalmology, Diseases and Surgery of Retina and Vitreous and Pediatric Ophthalmology (Connecticut Children's).
In addition to being a major center for cataract surgery in the central Connecticut area, the Eye Surgery Center, part of the Ophthalmology Department, is a referral resource for:
- Advanced Cataract Surgery
- Anterior Segment Surgery
- Cornea Surgery
- Glaucoma
- Ocular-Plastic Surgery
- Ocular-Trauma Surgery
- Retinal & Vitreous Surgery
Requests for consultations may be directed to the ophthalmologist on call thru the Emergency Department. Each member of the department covers the on-call service for one week at a time beginning Friday mornings each week.
Consultations on private patients may be requested through the department’s on-call service or directly with any of the ophthalmologists.
