Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery FellowshipFemale Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

Hartford Hospital is an 867-bed general and tertiary care teaching hospital and transplantation center affiliated with the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine.

Hartford Hospital’s fellowship program in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) is a fully approved ACGME-accredited program.  The educational goal of Hartford Hospital Graduate Medical Education (GME) in FPMRS is to provide fellows with a robust clinical and research experience allowing them to provide excellent care for women with complex pelvic floor disorders and flourish as independent investigators.  The fellowship is a three year multi-disciplinary training program with a broad experience in management of urinary and fecal incontinence, bladder pain disorders, pelvic organ prolapse, defecatory dysfunction and voiding dysfunction.  Each fellow will take courses in Biostatistics and Epidemiology.

Regularly scheduled didactic sessions are led by the faculty covering all topics in female pelvic floor dysfunction and dedicated monthly lectures on biostatistics.  Research is actively supported with mentoring, study design and protocol development and both grant and manuscript writing.  Time will be protected for completion of research projects and support provided from our Department as well as the Hartford Hospital Clinical Research Center.

Our program is rich with opportunities for teaching and research.  We work closely with the University of Connecticut obstetrics and gynecology residents whom rotate with our division for two months during their second and fourth years of residency.  We also host rotations for 4th year medical students from all over the country.

Strengths of our program include a strong track record of fellow research productivity and a dynamic faculty in FPMRS, Colon and Rectal Surgery and Urology. We hold regular multidisciplinary conferences. Our broad-based clinical experience includes a large volume of minimally invasive and vaginal surgery. Graduates from our program will be comfortable offering the full spectrum of clinical options to patients. They will be capable of serving as consultants at a tertiary care medical center.

FPMRS fellows have no obstetric obligations.

Our fellowship program seeks highly competitive candidates who are interested in pursuing academic careers.
