The University of Connecticut/Hartford Hospital Neurovascular Fellowship is an ACGME accredited one-year program emphasizing on clinical experience.
It is primarily based at Hartford Hospital, a JCAHO certified comprehensive stroke center in a large, urban hospital with a national reputation for clinical excellence. Two months are spent at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, a smaller, academic health center that excels in teaching and research as well as clinical care.
The fellow will be exposed to a full range of emergency, inpatient and outpatient management of ischemic and/or hemorrhagic strokes. One month of research experience may be elected at either Hartford Hospital (clinical) or at the UConn Health Center (laboratory).
The neurovascular fellow will have the collaboration of neurology residents who also participate in the care of acute stroke patients at Hartford Hospital and at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Neurovascular teaching will take place at bedside during daily stroke rounds and through didactic sessions scheduled throughout the year.
Salary is very competitive and residents/fellows enjoy a full benefits package that includes medical, dental, life and disability insurance, professional liability, and a tax sheltered investment program. Other benefits offered within the program include book and travel expenses and four weeks of paid vacation/educational leave.
