Program Eligibility and Selection Policies

Resident Eligibility for Radiology

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to the Radiology residency program at Hartford Hospital:

  1. Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  2. Graduates of colleges of Osteopathic Medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  3. Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
    • Have received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, or;
    • Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction in which they are training.
    • Are eligible to work in the U.S. (have permanent resident status) or obtain a J1 visa, which is the only visa which Hartford Hospital will sponsor.
  4. Fourth year medical students must complete one year of clinical training. The first postgraduate year must be accredited clinical training in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery or surgical specialties, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, family practice, emergency medicine, transitional year, or any combination of these. No more than a total of three months may be spent in radiology, radiation oncology, and/or pathology. All clinical training must be in an ACGME-, AOA-, or RCPSC- approved program (or equivalent).

Radiology Resident Selection

At Hartford Hospital, the Radiology Residency Program selects residents from among eligible applicants on the basis of their preparedness, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills and personal qualities. The Hartford Hospital Radiology Residency Program does not discriminate with regard to gender, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other applicable legally protected status.

The Hartford Hospital Radiology Residency Program participates the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
